“Legend of Korra” premiere review.

For those of you who have had the chance to listen to the podcast, you will know that I am quite a big fan of Avatar: The last airbender. So when word got out months ago that the creators of the first series were working on a new series in the Avatar universe, I was nothing short of giddy. Although the original show was targeted at a younger audience its first season, The adult themes and humor of the show, and the overall premise brought an older audience to nickelodean every week for a new episode.

The Avatar is the master of the four elements of air, water, fire, and earth. The Avatar is the bridge between the physical and spiritual world, and is tasked with maintaining balance between the four nations (who each control their own element). Korra (who was born in the water tribe) is brought up from an early age learning three of the four elements, and the show picks up when she has reached the point in her training to learn bending the air element, and is taken under the wing of Avatar Aang’s (the last airbender) son Tenzin.

This show, taking place 80 years after Aang and the hundred year war, this is a perfect setting for a new Avatar. The world after 80 years and industrial expansion, has taken on a more steampunk feel, and it looks amazing. From what I can tell the art style over all has changed a bit. More to the effect of cowboy bebops art style.

Korra is also quite a bit older then Aang which allows the writers to cater to the older audience that tends to watch the show, while still remaining on a kids program.

Only time will tell what opposition Korra meets along her journey to become the avatar, but I can tell you I will be glued to the T.V every week for a new episode! If you haven’t had a chance to watch the original series or catch the few episodes of korra that have leaked online, do yourself a favor and go check it out!

  1. Watched the first episode and I must say that I’m extremely happy with what the creators have done with the avatar universe. I’m looking forward to the rest of the show.
